What are you doing to archive your digital images? Are you hoping that your cd-r's will be ok in the future? Do you just not worry about it and let them fade away with the media? This article kinda gets me thinking. I know of some photographers that archive to both optical media (cd/dvd) and to large hard drives. They store the filled hd's and swap them with new ones. If you're an overshooter like me, it can get quite expensive. Do you have a concern of accessing your images down the road?
I have no lid upon my head, but if I did you could look inside and see what's on my mind.

Yes, I'm very concerned. I've seen digital images of a Space Shuttle launching "archieved" onto a disk that already shows severe degradation. Given that the image was captured in the mid-eighties it makes me wonder about those "lifetime storage" promises. Yes, I know the technology has improved for disk burning since they were created but I still wonder what my images will look like in 25 or 50 years. Hopefully some MIT or Cal-Tech graduate will figure out a viable, cost efficiant solution soon.

We check our media every 6 months or so and recopy anything that seems to be having issues.

Right now we're about to invest in a DVD-burner ($250) and start copying our CD's over to DVD.

I bought two 160gig USB 2.0 hard drives. One is strictly a backup of the other. It is not on all the time ONLY when I want to back from the one drive to the other. I also make CD's of all raw, unedited images and store them... I have a DVD burner and am going to start storing to DVD soon... Is there a right answer? NOPE! But I am happy with my solution...
