Hi this summer I plan on buying a new digital camera so that perhaps I can take some photography classes next year. I bought a cheap one to play around with and its ok, but I'd really like something more professional and has good quallity. If anyone could point me in the right direction as to what brand is good or what model, that would be great. I know some of the cameras out there are very pricey but I'm open to checking them out ... Im always taking pictures of everything, so any help would be great :) Thank you! :)

I have a Nikon D2X, nice camera ($$$$$), NikonD100 not as bad $ wise, Cannon EOS 20D is a good one from what I hear, and I've seen nice things from both the NikonD70 and the Cannon EOS Digital Rebel. Not sure of what you want to spend... makes a big difference as to which way to go. Both Nikon and Cannon are good bets.</p>

I like my digital rebels... also have an older D30 (thinking of selling)... You will hear good and bad about Nikon and Canon... but there is also Olympus... I would say the three brands are the ones to stay with... need to decide whether you want interchangeable lenses... need to think about what you are actually going to do with the camera (weddings, models, just family fun) and finally how much you want to spend! A great site to go to for information on digital cameras is Steve's Digicams. I go there first before buying anything to see if there is a review. Another good source for gear as much as cameras is Fred Miranda's Reviews. Best of luck, call me if you want and we can discuss your options... BTW folks, Kristen is also a great model!!!

Thank you so much for the information. I will deff. check out those links and shop around. I've heard mostly good things about canon, nikon and olympus... I have an HP and I do not like it at all. I go through batteries like crazy. But thank you so much for the information and I will check it out and maybe eventually I will be posting some photos! :D

Speaking of homework! To add to Max's resources for research, here would be two of my favorite sites.

I really have enjoyed my Pentax *ist D, and there are literally hundreds ok K-Mount lenses for sale on E-Bay as everyone is dropping their 35mm film cams for digital models.

I have used the FujiS2 for over a year now and like it. There is a hassel in that it requires two types of batteries. I was able to demo the S3 last weekend and really like this camera. They have resolved the battery issue.
A week ago I was at a workshop and shot the Olympus digital camera and also liked what it offers. I think all of the cameras are great you just have to make up you mind about each feature that is offered by the cameras and price.
I say take a honest look at Cannon, Kodak, Fuji, Nikon and Olympus. Try them out then go for it. The cameras will pay for themselves in no time.

Ive used a Digi Rebel over the course of the past year or so... and I am surprised to see it has not gone down in price yet. Love it, takes wonderful images.

Glad I didnt wait for a price break!
