If you selected the option in your profile to keep your email address private, you may want to go into your profile and change it to be visible so other members can contact you.

The reason why you may want to change that setting is because I also have the forum set "not to display your email address". Mainly because with the old forum, SPAMMERS seemed to harvest our list of 950+ members email addresses as though they hit the motherload.

By keeping your setting to not hide your email address, the only people that can contact you are existing members of the forum, but they "cannot actually see your email address", they have to use a form via the forum to email you. (You will be able to see their address, but they cannot see yours until you reply to them).

There is no way that I am aware of for your email address to be harvested into a spammers database by allowing members to email you, because no one can actually see your physical address.

To show you an example, if someone clicks on your profile to send you an email, this is what they will see, instead of your actual email address.

People who are not existing members cannot send an email until they register. If they use the form to SPAM people, their IP address will be banned, but either way, they will not be able to get your actual address unless you reply to them.

I sent an email to existing members, but I think my explanation to them (pretty much the same as above) may have been too confusing.

People have replied with " ok, i set it to hide my address" which is the exact opposite of what i wanted.

If any of you can explain this better, I'd love it... I am a computer guy and tend to make things more complicated than they should be... it's a simple thing.... Set your settings to display your email address...

But if someone can translate why it is good, and why they will not get spammed, please do so...
