I thought it'd be fun, interesting and educational for us to share one "Gold Nugget" of information that we've found or have learned. This could be from photographers and models. What's that one piece of most valuable information that you've learned?

Mine: Photography is 1 part technique and 2 parts "heart." Ya gotta love doing what you do.

C'mon regulars and lurkers, post yours. If you don't have one, make one up or do some reading. :D

I always believed it's not what you know, but who you know AND THEN it's what you know!!! You need to "network" with people and know someone who knows someone, then you better be able to prove yourself!

I find what has always given me that extra push is to always be open to trying new things. Acting has let me to modeling, and modeling to photography. If I haven't tried the things I thought I had no interest in, I wouldn't be where I am today - out shooting, and receiving help from those I've helped in the past.

It's also about being determind. If you want something to happen, then go out and make it happen!! I think that's one of my biggest pet peeves. I know too many people who want to make it big and all they do is sit around on their asses all day - waiting for a break. There are so many people out there going for the same career - so you have to show others that you are passionate about what you do, and make your self known (like dave said... Networking!). That's my rant ;)

For me it's a desire -- after 30+ years in advertising, marketing and publishing -- to make a living using my creative skills. As I have gotten older, I have thought more and more that I don't want to look back when I'm in the rocker on the porch at the old folks home and think, geez, I wish I had. Years ago when I was going through a difficult time at work a wise, older friend said to me that if I followed my heart and did what truly made me happy and contented I would find a way to make it work. She was right and very slowly I'm getting closer. As Larisa says, get off your ass, follow your passion and make it happen.

...and some advice to those younger than I: don't wait. If you know what you want, do it NOW. It only gets harder as the encumbrances of car loans, orthodontist bills, mortgages etc., etc. tie you down.

Life's too short not to be doing the things you love to do. If you want it bad enough, you'll find a way to make it happen.
