I have heard all kinds of stories about how this photographer didn't deliver the CD and that photographer didn't deliver the prints, how long it takes to get them, how is wasn't what they thought they were getting ya da ya da ya da. So much time and energy on the model's part whining. The one thing I never hear from a WNY model is a "Thank You" when things are delivered on time with a few extra prints thrown in as a little "Thank You" for them. This is the third time in a row it's happened to me. Once the prints are in the mail, not a word until it's "Wanta shoot again". My sympathy for models is fading quickly. If a model doesn't have time to say "Thank You", you think I will find the time to shoot them again? It not like it's all that hard to send a short eMail. If you are having difficulty just cut and paste the following:

"Got the prints, Thanks"

When was the last time you thanked your photographer?

of course it is important to thank the one photographing you, it isnt all that easy to get the right setting, lighting and blah blah, takes a couple hours to get that perfect picture and after the shoot you cant wait to see all the hard work pay off, and of course i always thank my photographer, and he knows who he is ;) and of course all the hopeful other photographers that would like to work with me and for me the same

I almost always stay in touch, just sometimes things come up and it slips my mind - and then a few weeks down the road I feel guilty as heck. Hey, things happen - this is life. Photographers mess up, models mess up... we're only human. It's when people don't learn from their mistakes that it becomes unprofessional. And the bitching and "whining" begins....

Some photographers (ahem! Mr. Helper) spoil their models too much, me thinks.

Can't expect models to be humble when you hand them everything on a silver platter.

That is too bad that models can not take a moment to thank the photographer. After a shoot the photographer may have a couple days of editing on top of the hours he/she spent shooting with the model. I have always thanked the photographer whether I am happy with the images or not. I know that the photographer gave it their best and gave their time and that is all that really matters.

But this is also a two way situation. I have been contacted by a photographer to do a shoot and have put hours into it with travel, preparing outfits and the shoot itself and have never heard a thank you from some of them. But when I see my picture in their book that can be thank you enough. Obviously they are thankful to have created an image they felt was good enough to include in their book:)Image

I must say that shooting with Mr. Helper should be considered an honor... He's no Amateur, and having his images in a portfolio is something most models would kill for.

If it was a TFP shoot, I am actually a bit surprised that he would take the time to do such a thing... Shooting models for TFP really is not going to help his portfolio or advance his career... it's a one-sided deal.. with the model having all of the benefits... I would think most models would be willing to pay him and still feel the need to thank him not only in words but by sending a thankyou card via snail mail. .... but hey... that's just my opinion.

Mr. Helper.. if people cannot offer a simple thank you, then odds are they are not only inconsiderate but also have no concept of the value of your photos..

I mean I think major celebrities would think your work was so good that many would be willing to pay you for a shoot... If I were you I'd just stop doing it all together and charge for shoots.

(Not trying to give Mr Helper a Big Head... but I think others who know him, would have to agree with me).

I agree. We don't want Mr. Helper to get a big head.

I must say that Mr. Helper is by no means a spoiler. He helps out his models as much as they need. We can't get started on our own! He gives exactly what he says and definatly some high quality professional work. Shooting with him was an honor. Jamie and I had a great time out there and I must say that some of the images I got from that shoot are some of my absolute favorite. What also is great about Mr. Helper is that he shoots children. That's not something that you see a lot of and I think it's great to capture a childs innocence and fun in a photograph. (Sorry if this adds to the not giving Mr. Helper a big head thing, but the man deserves a ton of credit).

Arron & Kelly,
I agree with you 100%. Mr Helpers work is top shelve and no matter what the "Fare" was to work with him models would still be looking to shoot with Mr Helper. From my experiences and from the words of models that have worked with him he is professional in every respect, delivers outstanding quality images and does and delivers exactly what he says prior to shooting. Does that give you any indication as to why someone would seek him out to work with.
As far as the no thanks from models I can asure you that it probably exists on both sides of the camera but being behind the camera I can relate to Mr Helpers fustration with " not even a thank you." After you go over the details of a photo session, find the location, secure a make up artist or stylist, pick out wordrobe, expend your energy along with the model at a long photo session, download the images, adjust the images, make the prints or send a CD after the images are done it is really fustrating not to hear from the model at all. Even a "I received the images" would help as at least you know that the images were delivered.
I know it's a two way street and both the model and the photographer must be on board and treat each other professionaly but I can feel Mr Helpers pain.
Mr Helper for that swelled head just soak it daily in a bucket of Bud, remember to keep your mouth open.

I should mention that I believe "Thank you's" are a 2-way street.... I don't want anyone to get me wrong here... (which you might if you do not know Mr. Helper personally).

My previous comments are in the context of the following: If pro model offered to model for an Amateur or semi pro Photographer to help him/her get started in photography... it's more of a one way street as far as who benefits more.

The same goes for a Pro photographer offering to photograph an amateur or semi pro model.

I just think that when the services traded are way out of balance, you would think the one gaining the higher benefit to be outwardly appreciative.

This is a bit off topic... but, Ray, that's a great photo. The mode's eyes are stunning.

I think my comments were taken out of context.

I was picking on Mr Helper, a good friend and mentor. Inside joke.

Sorry folks! Didn't mean to stir anything up, quite the opposite.

Keep up the good work, Mr Helper!
