Charles from Columbia, SC. He claims to be a truck driver and delivers in Elam. Um where is Elam. He describes it as this copied our convo

SCPHOTO1 [12:03 PM]: I will be in Elam in the morning
SCPHOTO1 [12:05 PM]: Are you looking for help with your own port
SCPHOTO1 [12:05 PM]: Elam is just south of Buffalo
SCPHOTO1 [12:05 PM]: off I- 90 and Highway 400
SCPHOTO1 [12:05 PM]: Exit 54
LUV FL707 [12:06 PM]: I'm sorry, but I just don't trust you. I corrected you a couple of times on "Elma" Just all kinda weird to me

I know where elma is and how to spell it. I only lived in Buffalo for 21 years. I spoke with him in emails and still calls it Elam. Seems really fishy to me. Just a warning to you girls out there.

Oh yeah if OMP is http://www.onemodelplace.com/photographer_list.cfm?P_ID=701

Please do be careful if you decide to work with him.

thx for your time and hope you don't mind me posting this warning

Jenn

edited for my spelling mistake

Jenn, there is nothing wrong with stating your concern about a photographer and letting others know.

I do not know this person, but since he does have a OMP profile I would first start by contacting the models he lists as managing... and note that he has 38 acknowledgements on his profile... ask some of those models. The great thing about OMP is that there are many ways to check on a photographer OR model. Everyone out there should take advantage of it!

Folks always be smart about what you agree to, and if it sounds too good, it is!

I'm not really comfortable with a warning like this....

It could be that the guy is just a bad typist and accidentally flipped the "m" and the "a".

I am no FBI Profiler... but I don't think typos indicate a tendancy for serial murdering... If that were the case, some of the better photographers on this forum should be lined up and executed immediately ;)

He's not from the area, so overlooking a typo in the spelling of the name of an area he drives through in another state may be easy to do... (Half the people I know spell "Ft. Myers, FL" ----> "Ft. Meyers, FL".. even after I correct them)

I'm just glad he doesn't travel to Canandaigua NY... nobody spells that right.. even the people who live there ;)

Ya... but think of towns like "Corfu, NY"
It's pronounced:
"Cor-few"....

but people can't help but to call it either:
"Curfew" or "Kor-Foo"

It's a small village in NY, not a time for your kids to be home or a Japanese word.

There are a number of towns sprinkled about the country named "Elam." Being a truck driver, maybe he's just used to saying that or maybe he has a mental block. I used to jokingly pronounce the Louvre the "Loovra" and now I still call it that in casual conversation. So, you had better watch out for me too. ;)

I don't know the guy and maybe he is a creep, but command of the English language isn't necessarily a prerequisite for being a photographer. :D You went with your first impressions/instincts and more models should follow them, but posting warnings publicly because of a minor literary offense probably isn't in your best interest. Just my opinion. :O

lets not forget Skinny Atlas..then theres Cant Stand Ya or Constanitia which is in Oswego County..or Oswego for that matter. For the record the residents rarely pronounce the "O". Usually it's just "Swego"

Ok folks enough. We have had a little fun at the cost of Jenn but I think the real point is being missed here. Jenn felt "odd" with a photographer contact, AND she felt it important to mention it here. WHICH is good! If we have fun at the expense of this, what model will be willing to tell us again of someone that they are unsure of....

Models and Photographers should always ask and check for references. Both always should see the person's work before agreeing to work with them. And if you can't find that information, ASK us on the forum either in a public forum as this or send us an Email. I will always respond to an email sent to me, and always give my input as best as I can.

The purpose of this forum is to share information and protect ourselves. Sorry if this sounds a little high and mighty, but this is serious stuff at times and we can't forget about that.

USE the resources you have... check the forums, do searches on Google or Yahoo by name, check for OMP profiles, ask other photographers/models...

Ok, I am leaving the pulpit now...

You are right, Max and I am sorry Jenn if you construed this as a mark against your intuition. Follow your heart and listen to your little voice.
