This industry is a visual one. Like Mr. Helper used to say, "Photographers are lazy" so we tend to not want to have to follow links or copy and paste them to see what you look like. So, it is encouraged that you post a photo of yourself when introducing yourself or looking for work. It also helps when looking for a critique or opinions on a particular shot. Have you noticed at the bottom of a thread there's a "Quick Reply" window? That way one can comment with little or no scrolling and in the same window.
Anyways, here's how you can post an image:
1. You must have the image hosted on a server or website.
2. The server or website must allow "hotlinking" or "remote linking." (Read your terms of use/user agreement for your website host). Also, ask permission if it's hosted on someone else's website/server. "Borrowing" bandwidth without permission is not cool.
3. Once it's hosted, you'll need the image url, not the page it's on. To get this on a PC, right click on the image, choose "Properties" and in the Properties window, there'll be a url to copy. If you're on a Mac, either right click (OS X) or control click on the image and choose "Open in New Window." The image will open in a browser window, just copy the url from "http://" onward.
4. When making your post, you'll see a series of buttons above the window. Click "Image" and paste the url into that window, then click "OK." You'll see the code automatically entered at the bottom of your message window. When you click "Submit.." it'll show up in your post. (BTW, this is much easier than the old board where you had to enter the code manually.)
If you have any problems read these instructions again, check to see if your host allows hotlinking, and check the url again. If that still doesn't work, ask a moderator to help. Once you do it successfully, it's a piece of cake.
