Julya's Obituary

Postby wnymodels on August 9th, 2005, 8:13 pm

Even though we live in the same town, I did not find out that Julya died until yesterday.

Julya was a long time favorite over the years in WNY... I hadn't seen her in person in at least a year, she took dance as a child with my wife, graduated from the same school as my son... most of the regulars here know her personally as well... she will be missed by many.

I wanted to share her obituary here on the forum.

Julya Ried

Batavia - Miss Julya Ried, age 36, a former counselor at the YWCA Day Care Program, died Sunday, July 31, 2005, at the Erie County Medical Center.

Miss Ried was born January 18, 1969 in Batavia, the daughter of the late Charles and Diane Powell Ried of Batavia.

Julya was a 1987 graduate of Notre Dame High School and a member of St. Joseph´s Church. She was an amateur photographer and loved all animals, especially cats.

Along with her mother, she is survived by her grandmother, Casilda Ried of Ohio; two brothers, Jeffrey (Kelly) Ried of California and James (Kim) Ried of Stafford. Also surviving are nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the H. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. The Sodality of St. Joseph’s Church will meet at 5:30 PM on Wednesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 AM Thursday, August 4, 2005 at St. Joseph's Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Batavia, NY. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph´s Church, 301 Main St., Batavia, NY 14020.

I can only say how much I am in shock... Julya was a mainstay model for me when I first got back into photography a few years ago... We must have worked together more than 6 times, shooting hundreds of images... Julya brought such excitement to our sessions... always willing to try my ideas and always coming up with some concept of her own... of recent we had lost contact as often happens in this business... I will miss her very much... Max

Wow...what a loss. While I never had a chance to work with her we have chatted a few times in the past about doing so. This just re-affirms the fact that we never have as much time as we'd like to think.

My condolances to her family and friends.

This is very sad news. Julya and I had worked together many times. We created many beautiful images and had a lot of fun during the shoots. I will miss her.

I only worked with Julya once, but I can tell you the images we got together were some of the most artistic work I've ever done. . . and that it had nothing to do with me. I just stood there and pushed the button. She was great.

We are a much poorer community without her.

Julya retrospective?

Postby Syrotica on August 11th, 2005, 10:37 pm

I have an idea. Maybe it's too soon for this, and if so I apologize.

I only have a few shots of Julya, but I'd be willing to donate them to a retrospective of some type. Perhaps the other photogs on here who worked with her could donate shots as well, and we'd put them all together in one place - either a web site, or a book.

I have web space I could donate. Also, my original aim in starting my image business was to get cash to support a small press publishing business. I'd donate time and effort to producing a book.

If we charge for any of this, I suggest we put the proceeds toward cancer research or some other charity - whatever her family thinks best.

Again, if you feel I'm out of line, please don't flame me on the board.

I've never met nor worked with Julya, but I remember the old days of the board when she frequented. My deepest sympathy and regrets to her friends and family.
I have no lid upon my head, but if I did you could look inside and see what's on my mind.

Julya -- from another old buddy

Postby BruceB on August 25th, 2005, 2:49 pm

I'm a relative stranger anymore... was busy on this board 1999-2002... but it was with Julya and me as it was with Julya and several others. It was her instinctiveness as a model, and her delightful friendship, that made it easy for me to re-learn glamour shooting. Even had a chance to meet her dad -- talked railroading, his business and my passion, while Jules sat there and rolled her eyes. And his passing last year devastated her. I will deeply miss her trademark e-mail "Hi, buddy..." I'm sure Tony Papale in NYC will allow me to quote him: "Now she's turning the heads of the other angels..."

Julya, cont'd

Postby BruceB on August 27th, 2005, 10:22 am

Incidentally -- I'm sure others have thought of this -- I e-mailed GlamourModels this morning to take Julya's profile off their NY State listings. And told them why. Without a lot of time to look, I'm sure that she was on several others. Is this process underway?
